Electrical work: registered electrical contractors, Forms WR1 and WR2
Under the Electricity Ordinance (Cap. 406), electrical work on fixed installations (including inspection and repair) must be carried out by a registered electrical contractor, with the work itself done by registered electrical workers. Verify the contractor's number here or on EMSD's register, and ask the worker for their REW card.
WR1: Work Completion Certificate
After a new fixed installation, or an alteration or addition to one, the registered electrical contractor and worker issue Form WR1, certifying it was inspected and tested under the Electricity (Wiring) Regulations. Ask for and keep the WR1 after rewiring or a new distribution board.
WR2: Periodic Test Certificate
EMSD says that in typical residential or commercial premises, installations with an approved loading over 100 amperes must be inspected, tested and certified at least once every five years, and the WR2 submitted to EMSD for endorsement. EMSD
